The Kano State Government has suspended the end-of-month environmental sanitation exercise for March to allow residents to focus on preparations for the upcoming Sallah celebration.
Dr. Dahiru Hashim, Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, announced the decision, emphasizing that it aims to ease preparations for the festivities marking the conclusion of Ramadan.
“The decision was made to allow residents to focus on Sallah preparation. It is also to accommodate the influx of visitors who come to Kano during this festive period,” Hashim stated.
He further explained that the suspension reflects the government’s commitment to balancing administrative duties with the cultural and religious needs of the people.
Despite the suspension, Hashim clarified that the sanitation exercise will proceed as scheduled in Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as in motor parks and marketplaces, on Friday, March 28, 2025.
He reassured the public of the ministry’s dedication to maintaining a clean and healthy environment while respecting cultural and religious traditions. The monthly sanitation exercise is set to resume in April 2025.
The ministry also urged residents to uphold good hygiene and sanitation practices during the suspension period and beyond.
