Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has donated ₦100 million to support the victims of the recent fire incident at Kantin Kwari Textile Market. During his visit to the market, the governor expressed solidarity with the affected traders, explaining that the donation is aimed at easing the burden of their losses.
“While this money cannot fully compensate for the losses suffered, it is intended to help ease the burden on those affected,” Governor Yusuf stated.
He also announced a series of initiatives to improve market infrastructure and prevent future disasters. These include the installation of solar-powered street lights, the rehabilitation of roads, the construction of drainages, and the provision of motorized boreholes to improve conditions at the market.
The fire, which destroyed 29 shops, was quickly brought under control thanks to the swift response of firefighters. Alhaji Hamisu Sa’ad Dogon Nama, Managing Director of Kantin Kwari Market Management Board, expressed gratitude for the rescue efforts, while Chairman of the Market Elders Committee, Alhaji Sabu’u Bako, praised the governor’s support and urged the government to address other operational challenges the traders face.
Governor Yusuf reassured the traders of his commitment to strengthening Kano’s role as a commercial hub for Northern Nigeria and West Africa. His financial aid and infrastructure plans have been widely appreciated by the traders and local leaders, who see the efforts as a vital step toward rebuilding the market and enhancing its resilience against future challenges.
