Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, approved the recruitment of 1,800 health workers to address staffing shortages across all Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities in the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Umma Ahmad, explained that the recruitment initiative is part of efforts to solidify Kaduna’s position as a leader in Primary Health Care services.
“This recruitment is aimed at bridging the human resource gaps in healthcare facilities, which will significantly reduce maternal and child mortality and improve the overall well-being of Kaduna residents,” Ahmad said.
She also emphasized the ongoing revitalization of 255 PHC facilities across the state, which includes the provision of modern equipment and the distribution of essential medications.
As part of Governor Sani’s comprehensive health sector reform, all 255 PHCs will be remodeled and upgraded to Level 2 status.
These upgraded facilities will be equipped to manage conditions such as uncomplicated diabetes, hypertension, severe asthma, and to provide essential services like resuscitation and delivery care.
“Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Sani has made the health sector a priority, a commitment reflected in the many awards his administration has received,” said the Commissioner.
She also highlighted that under the current administration, quality healthcare is regarded not as a privilege but as a fundamental human right.
Ahmad noted that Kaduna’s recognition as the best-performing state in Primary Health Care in the North West zone, including the PHC Leadership Challenge award, underscores the progress made.
Governor Sani’s efforts have been acknowledged through 10 national and international awards, including the prestigious Excellence Award from the International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA).
