The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), sealed the premises of 13 companies in Kaduna city for failing to pay land-based revenue liabilities totaling ₦1.5 billion.
The affected entities include five commercial banks, a hotel, filling stations, and an eatery.
The enforcement action was carried out by a KADIRS team led by its Legal Adviser, Aisha Garba, under the authority granted by Section 104 of the “Personal Income Tax Act” and Section 24 (1, 2, 3) of the “Kaduna State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law, 2020 (as amended).”
Speaking to journalists, Garba explained that the agency had secured a court order to close the premises of the defaulting companies until their outstanding liabilities are fully settled.
“Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service, in exercise of its powers vested by the “Personal Income Tax Act” and the “Kaduna State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law, 2020 (as amended),” has sealed several organizations due to established and accumulated land-based revenue liabilities, as determined by the Kaduna State Geographic Information Service (KADGIS),” she stated.
The defaulters and their liabilities include: Hamdala Hotel Kaduna: ₦113,134,272, Hamdala Motel Kaduna: ₦26,291,384, Bank of Agriculture Kaduna: ₦20,484,641, New Nigeria Development Company (Ten Story Building): ₦20,002,559, Unity Bank (Yakubu Gowon Way): ₦3,886,036, Unity Bank (Main Branch): ₦3,115,920, Chicken Republic (Yakubu Gowon Way): ₦980,911, First City Monument Bank (Yakubu Gowon Way): ₦11,539,086, Zenith Bank (Yakubu Gowon Way): ₦5,355,229, Forte Oil Filling Station (Muhammadu Buhari Way): ₦2,238,546, GT Bank Parking Lot: ₦622,284, A.G. Leventis Building: ₦3,743,461 and Keystone Bank PLC: ₦2,213,136
The enforcement action underscores the state government’s commitment to ensuring compliance with tax laws and recovering outstanding revenues to fund public services. The sealed properties will remain closed until all dues are cleared.
