The Kaduna State Government has announced the launch of a free bus transportation service for civil servants, students, retirees, and security personnel, beginning Monday, July 7, 2025, as part of the Kaduna Subsidised Transport Scheme (KSTS).

The initiative, which will run free for an initial six-month period, aims to ease the financial burden of daily commuting for key segments of the population.

According to the Director General of the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA), Inuwa Ibrahim, the scheme reflects Governor Uba Sani’s continued commitment to improving the welfare of residents, especially public workers, school children, and the elderly.

Eligible beneficiaries include civil servants, retirees, and students of both public and private institutions—from primary to tertiary levels. After the six-month free phase, a 60% fare subsidy will be introduced to accommodate the wider public.

To ensure efficient service delivery and prevent abuse of the scheme, Ibrahim outlined strict access protocols. Civil servants will be required to present a valid staff ID alongside their National Identification Number (NIN) to board the buses.

Students must wear their complete school uniforms to be eligible, while personnel of recognized security agencies can also access the buses upon proper identification.

The transport service, which will operate under strict order and security guidelines, will see buses begin operations along major routes in the state capital from Monday.

The state government believes the initiative will significantly improve mobility and reduce transportation costs for thousands of residents.
