Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, directed the immediate release of N548 million to the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Endwell Scheme, a fund that was withheld by the previous administration.
The decision effectively resolves the long-standing industrial dispute between the union and the Kaduna State Government.
Announcing the development at a press conference in Kaduna, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KASUBEB), Mubarak Mohammed, explained that the resolution was reached following extensive negotiations between the NUT and the state government.
“I am pleased to announce that Governor Uba Sani has successfully resolved the long-standing dispute between the Kaduna State Government and the NUT regarding the NUT Endwell Fund,” Mohammed stated.
He further clarified that the Endwell Fund comprises statutory deductions from teacher’s salaries, intended to support them during their service and retirement.
Under the agreement, all related litigations will be discontinued, and the NUT will now independently manage the fund.
To enhance transparency and efficiency, Mohammed disclosed that the NUT Endwell Scheme will undergo structural reforms.
Governor Uba Sani’s administration has remained committed to education and teachers’ welfare since he assumed office in May 2023.
“The Governor has demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving access to quality education, increasing pupil enrollment and retention, and enhancing overall learning conditions in primary and secondary schools,” Mohammed added.
Kaduna State NUT Chairman, Ibrahim Dalhatu, expressed appreciation for the governor’s intervention, emphasizing the positive impact of the fund’s release on teacher’s welfare.
“We are grateful to Governor Uba Sani for his commitment to resolving this dispute.
The release of the N548 million to the NUT Endwell Fund is a significant milestone in our efforts to improve the welfare of teachers in Kaduna State,” Dalhatu stated.
