Nigeria’s electricity grid collapsed on Wednesday, February 12, shortly before noon, causing power outages in different parts of the country.
The incident was reported by a platform dedicated to monitoring the grid, which confirmed that a disturbance had occurred.
Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, one of the country’s major power suppliers, stated that the outage happened at exactly 11:34 a.m.
The company assured customers that efforts were underway to restore supply.
Officials are working with key stakeholders to address the issue and bring electricity back to affected areas.
However, details on the cause of the collapse and the expected restoration timeline have not been provided.
This is not the first time Nigeria has experienced a grid failure, as the power sector continues to struggle with challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, gas supply issues, and transmission faults.
