Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District, donated ₦10 million to traders affected by the recent fire at the Caring Heart Market in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
The fire, which broke out at midnight on December 12, destroyed 18 shops stocked with frozen foods and other goods valued at over ₦50 million.
During his visit to the scene on Thursday, Ibrahim, accompanied by traditional rulers, sympathized with the traders and announced additional measures to prevent future incidents.
“I want to express my sympathy to you for the loss of your stalls and shops,” he said.
“I was informed that the fire could have been controlled if water had been available.
To address this, I will provide a solar-powered borehole and light up the market with solar lamps,” he stated.
He added, “I have seen the level of destruction and losses.
I am donating ₦10 million to help you restock your goods.”
Chief Mrs. Florence Irinyemi, the Iyalaje of the market, expressed gratitude on behalf of the traders, thanking Ibrahim for his swift response and generous support.
