The Commissioner of Police for Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, reassured residents of Orsu Local Government Area (LGA) of their safety and encouraged those who had fled due to insecurity to return to their homes.
Danjuma provided the assurance on Tuesday as he led a tactical unit on a clearance operation in Orsu, part of ongoing peace-building efforts aimed at restoring confidence in the area.
Orsu LGA, once a stronghold for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN), was plagued by violent crimes that led to the deaths of many and caused widespread displacement in 2020.
However, following intensified military and security operations, normalcy is gradually returning, with many displaced persons beginning to return.
During his visit, the CP toured key areas, including Eke Ututu Market, Ihiteukwa, Okwu Amaraihe, Awo-Idemili, Ihitenansa, and Amaruru.
He engaged with youth leaders, community stakeholders, and security personnel to strengthen local security partnerships.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, it was revealed that Danjuma worked alongside joint security forces, including police, military, Department of State Services, and local vigilantes, all deployed to Orsu as part of the peace initiative.
The statement also highlighted the success of security operations, noting a reduction in criminal activity in the area, along with the recovery of improvised explosive devices and weapons from disbanded IPOB/ESN camps.
At the Orsu LGA Headquarters, Danjuma met with key stakeholders, including the Chief Security Officer of Orsu, Hon. Emmanuel Ike.
The discussions centered on strengthening security partnerships, intelligence sharing, and improving rapid response mechanisms to further enhance safety in the region.
The CP was accompanied on the tour by Orsu LGA Chairman Friday Ibekaeme and House of Assembly member Uche Agabige, who represent the area.
Reaffirming the Imo State Police Command’s commitment to maintaining security, Danjuma pledged to increase patrols and continue proactive intelligence efforts.
He urged residents to report any suspicious activities and called on the youth to cooperate with security agencies in order to build on the progress made in restoring peace to the area.
