The House of Representatives on Wednesday, called on the Federal Government to include funding for the construction of the road leading to the Bellview air crash site in the 2025 budget. This would allow families to visit and pay their respects to the victims of the 2005 tragedy.
The resolution followed a motion moved by Ibrahim Ayokunle, the representative for Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, Ogun State, during the plenary session. The motion titled, “Need to rehabilitate the road and bridges leading to the site of the ill-fated Bellview Boeing 737-200 Airline Flight 210 from Lagos to Abuja,” reminded lawmakers of the devastating crash that killed all 117 passengers on board.
Ayokunle highlighted that families have been unable to visit the site due to the poor condition of the road and collapsed bridges at the Awela and Alapako Rivers, which have been further damaged by flood and erosion.
Following the motion’s unanimous adoption, the House tasked the Committees on Ecological Funds, Appropriations, and Aviation to ensure budgetary provisions are made for infrastructure repairs in 2025. Additionally, they directed the Ecological Project Office to commence immediate road and bridge development, allowing families safe access to the site for remembrance purposes.
