Hoodlums have set the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) office in the Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area ablaze.
The incident was confirmed by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, who informed Channels Television that, despite the arson, the electoral materials were unharmed, allowing the elections to continue as planned.
“Some hoodlums partially set the AKISIEC office in Ibiono Ibom ablaze, but the election materials remained intact. The election is also ongoing,” she stated.
John further assured the public, “Security has been beefed up at all AKISIEC offices and strategic locations across the state to prevent further sabotage.” She emphasized that the police are working diligently to ensure that the elections proceed smoothly.
