The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has charged Edo Queens to aim for ultimate glory in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.
Edo Queens secured their spot in the semi-finals with a stunning 2-1 victory over defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday night. The Nigerian side demonstrated remarkable resilience, coming from behind to eliminate the South African giants.
Gusau lauded the team for their spirited performance, describing their triumph as a testament to the “renowned Nigerian spirit” of resilience and determination.
“The NFF and the Nigeria football family are very happy at the accomplishments of Edo Queens over the past months, from winning the WAFU B title to reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League,” Gusau said. “We congratulate the Edo State Government and all those involved in this remarkable progress of the team.”
He added: “The ladies exhibited the much-talked-about Nigerian spirit to come from behind and defeat the Cup holders. Theirs is a statement in resilience, determination, and ambition. I believe they have been highly inspired by that victory and have the capacity to go all the way and win the title.”
Edo Queens, who claimed their maiden Nigerian league title last season before securing the WAFU B Women’s Champions League crown in Côte d’Ivoire, now stand on the cusp of history.
The Nigerian champions will face TP Mazembe of DR Congo in the first semi-final on Tuesday at 4 PM Moroccan time. The other semi-final will see AS FAR of Morocco take on Masar of Egypt later that evening.
With their eyes on the prize, Gusau’s words of encouragement.
