Three young men were killed in a violent attack in Rakok village, located in the Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the Berom Youths Moulders Association (BYM), signed by its National President Dalyop Mwantiri, the victims were ambushed and brutally murdered while attending to their daily business activities in the community.

BYM condemned the attack and highlighted a disturbing pattern of similar incidents in the region.

They called on security agencies to urgently address the recurring violence, which they say includes killings, assaults on women, and the destruction of farm produce.

“The recurrence of continued killings, ambushes, assault on women, willful destruction and mass harvest of corn and other crops belonging to Berom native inhabitants by Fulani militants and criminal gangs in and around Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and parts of Jos South Local Government Areas as well as other parts of Plateau State should be stemmed with corresponding military action to avoid degeneration of the situation,” the association’s statement read.

The BYM specifically urged Operation Safe Haven, the military task force in the area, to take immediate action to curb the attacks, cautioning against allowing Plateau State to become a “theatre of bloodshed as witnessed in the past.”

The association also called for a thorough investigation, urging authorities to arrest those responsible for the killings and compensate affected farmers for crop destruction, stolen harvests, and stolen motorcycles.

Additionally, they appealed for medical support for those injured in the attack.

As of now, neither the police nor the Joint Security Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, has issued an official statement on the incident
