Gunmen attacked a mosque in the Bushe community, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, abducting at least 10 worshippers, including the Imam, during the early morning (Subhi) prayer on Thursday.
The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that security agencies were working tirelessly to secure the release of the abducted worshippers.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area had confirmed the attack.
Local sources revealed that the armed men stormed the mosque at dawn while worshippers were engaged in prayers, forcibly taking several individuals.
Despite the presence of security forces in the region, including troops of Operation Fasan Yamma from the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division headquarters, the community has suffered repeated attacks.
Sa’idu Ibrahim, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing the area, also confirmed the abductions.
He stated that at least 10 people were taken but commended security forces for preventing further kidnappings.
Security operatives have assured residents that efforts are underway to rescue the victims and curb future attacks in the region.
