Governors across Nigeria have been urged to ensure that the unprecedented revenue allocation from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) directly improves the lives of citizens.
The call was made by the Ajisope Development Initiative following the disbursement of ₦2.225 trillion for August, the largest allocation in Nigeria’s history.
The initiative emphasized that this milestone presents a unique opportunity for state governments to implement impactful projects and policies.
Founder of the group, Abdulkabir Ajisope, noted that the historic disbursement came shortly after President Bola Tinubu announced that the country had surpassed its 2025 revenue target ahead of schedule, buoyed largely by gains from the non-oil sector.
Ajisope stressed that the moment should not be wasted on routine expenditure but should instead be channeled into strategic investments in agriculture, infrastructure, and other income-generating ventures that can boost economic diversification.
He said aligning with the President’s reform agenda would accelerate the shift away from overdependence on oil revenues.
According to him, governors must also make the allocation process transparent, ensuring citizens are aware of the funds their states are receiving and feel the impact through visible improvements in service delivery, job creation, and social welfare.
The Ajisope Development Initiative described the August allocation as a turning point for Nigeria’s economy, urging state leaders to seize the opportunity to “water the ground” and build sustainable growth.
It stressed that failure to do so would mean missing a rare chance to drive development at both the state and grassroots levels.
