Governor Dauda Lawal, approved the recruitment of 2,000 teachers to strengthen the education sector across Zamfara State.
The announcement was made during an Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau.
In a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the recruitment aligns with Governor Lawal’s campaign promise to prioritize education as part of his administration’s agenda.
“Education is the second priority of this administration, and it has already received significant attention, yielding desired results,” the statement noted.
Governor Lawal previously declared a state of emergency in the education sector on November 14, 2023.
This initiative included constructing and renovating over 400 schools across the state’s 14 local government areas, equipping them with more than 12,000 two-seater desks for students, and providing over 700 tables and 1,000 chairs for teachers.
During the council meeting, the governor emphasized the phased recruitment process, ensuring qualified and competent individuals are employed.
“We are committed to improving the quality of education in Zamfara State.
This year, we will employ 2,000 qualified teachers to address critical needs in our schools.
Recruitment will begin with 500 teachers in the first quarter, focusing on essential subjects such as English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, ICT, and Entrepreneurship,” Governor Lawal stated.
The recruitment effort is part of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Program, aimed at reversing the decline in education standards and elevating the quality of teaching and learning in the state.
