Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, dismissed allegations that his administration has engaged in excessive borrowing, clarifying that the only loan secured was a ₦200 billion facility specifically allocated for the construction of the Ring Road project.
The project, a dual carriageway spanning over 50 kilometers, will connect six local government areas in the state.
Speaking during the inauguration of the 11.8km Okehi-Umuola-Eberi road on Wednesday, Governor Fubara challenged critics to verify his statement with the Debt Management Office (DMO).
The road, a critical link between Etche and Omuma local government areas, is one of many projects aimed at fostering connectivity and economic growth in the state.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of Rivers State residents, despite attempts to undermine his efforts.
“Our focus remains on the happiness and development of our people,” Fubara said, adding that additional projects, including more roadworks and healthcare facilities, are in the pipeline for the Etche and Omuma communities.
Addressing past governance practices, Governor Fubara criticized the previous administration for halting a road project that connected Rivers State to Imo State through Etche, allegedly because it led to the home of an opposition politician.
“Governance should not be driven by vindictiveness,” Fubara stated, noting that his administration is now completing the road to serve the people.
The Okehi-Umuola-Eberi road inauguration marks the beginning of a series of 14 projects slated for commissioning and groundbreaking between December 4 and December 21.
Governor Fubara emphasized that these projects reflect his administration’s focus on sustainable development and inclusive governance.
