The Gombe State Government has begun the implementation of the new national minimum wage for state and local government workers, effective from October 2024. This decision came after a meeting between state officials, led by Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, and representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Deputy Governor Jatau, who heads the committee overseeing the wage negotiations, confirmed that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the wage adjustment. A technical committee has been established to finalize the implementation details within 72 hours to ensure that the new wage structure is applied promptly.
This move is part of the government’s effort to improve the welfare of civil servants in line with the Federal Government’s directive. The new minimum wage also covers local government workers across the state.
The meeting was attended by various key state officials, including the Head of Civil Service, the Commissioner of Finance, the State Accountant General, and the State Auditor General. The NLC reassured workers that they will receive the full N70,000 minimum wage as agreed, pending final approval once the technical committee submits its report.
