Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced plans to present the 2025 state budget to the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo. The governor emphasized the strong collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government in enhancing the welfare of Rivers residents.
This announcement came during the commissioning of two ultra-modern community town halls and the launch of a scholarship and empowerment initiative by the Speaker in Akiama and Aganya communities within Bonny Local Government Area on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Edison Ehie, praised the harmonious relationship with the legislature. “The government and people of Rivers State congratulate you, Mr. Speaker, for representing the Ibani Kingdom with distinction. We assure you that, while respecting the independence of the legislature, we will continue our collaboration to promote prosperity for our people,” he stated.
Fubara commended the Speaker’s role in expediting legislative processes, citing the screening of nominees and passage of executive bills. He added, “The Speaker’s facilitation of caretaker committee appointments and support for executive requests underscores the Assembly’s dedication, as we prepare to present the 2025 budget.”
He further applauded Oko-Jumbo’s commitment to constituency projects, contrasting it with the actions of 25 former Assembly members. “Constituency projects are evidence of elected officials’ commitment. Meanwhile, those former members—dismissed and now based in Abuja—have neglected their responsibilities,” he remarked.
Governor Fubara commended the Speaker for launching projects that empower the Bonny community, including the financial aid given to 100 indigenes and tertiary scholarships awarded to 30 students.
In his remarks, Speaker Oko-Jumbo thanked the people of Bonny for their support and affirmed his commitment to the state’s development. He assured the public that the 10th Assembly would remain focused despite opposition, promising that Bonny Local Government would benefit from the upcoming 2025 budget.
“The 2025 budget, soon to be presented by His Excellency, will include significant allocations for Bonny Kingdom’s growth and infrastructure needs,” Oko-Jumbo stated.
