Cameroonian MMA star Francis Ngannou has claimed the PFL heavyweight title after a dominant victory over Renan Ferreira at the “PFL Battle of the Giants” main event, held at Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena.
Making a triumphant return to mixed martial arts, the former UFC heavyweight champion overwhelmed Ferreira in the first round, securing the win with a brutal ground-and-pound attack. Ngannou asserted control early with powerful low kicks and executed a skillful double-leg takedown. At 3:22 of the first round, he sealed his first PFL Super Fight title by stopping Ferreira, who had attempted a triangle choke.
The victory carried profound personal significance for Ngannou, who dedicated the win to his late son, Kobe, who tragically passed away at just 15 months old. In a deeply emotional post-fight interview, Ngannou paid tribute to Kobe, fighting back tears as he spoke about the personal meaning of the win.
“This one is for Kobe,” Ngannou said, reflecting on the loss of his son during his post-fight interview.
Ngannou’s path to this milestone moment included a foray into the boxing world, where he faced off against top contenders like Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury before returning to MMA. His emphatic victory marks a new chapter in his fighting career, with his PFL heavyweight title standing as both a professional triumph and a moving tribute to his son’s memory.
