Former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief (Sir) Rex Chuma Onyeabo, has passed away at the age of 80.
His family announced the development in a statement on Thursday, signed by his son, Dr. Obiora Onyeabo, noting that the elder statesman died peacefully on August 7.
“With heavy hearts but gratitude to God for a life well spent, the Onyeabo family of Enugu State announces the passing of our patriarch and statesman, Chief (Sir) Rex Chuma Onyeabo (KSM),” the statement read.
Until his death, Chief Onyeabo held several revered traditional titles, including Eze-Ugo 1 of Abuja Igbo Community, Onwa na-etili Ora 1 of Ugbawka, Ijele 1 na Akaegbe-Ugwu, and Ada-Idaha of Efik Kingdom.
A founding member of the PDP, he served as the party’s National Secretary in 1999 and remained a member of its Board of Trustees until his demise.
The family said details of his funeral arrangements would be released in due course.
