A former governor of Oyo State, Victor Omololu Olunloyo, passed away at the age of 90.
His death was confirmed in a statement released by his family on Sunday.
According to a message from his wife, Mrs. Ronke Olunloyo, the former governor died at a private hospital in Ibadan after a brief illness.
His passing comes just days before he was set to celebrate his 90th birthday later this month.
“With a heavy heart but gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, mathematician, engineer, and renowned technocrat, a few days before his 90th birthday,” the message read.
Dr. Olunloyo, also known as the Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, was the first rector of both the Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic, among other distinguished roles throughout his career.
His legacy of service to the nation and humanity continues to be a source of pride for his family and those who knew him.
The Olunloyo family requested the understanding of the press and the public as they make preparations for a dignified burial.
“Even from everlasting to everlasting, He is God,” the statement concluded.
