Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has once again appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding allegations of fund misappropriation.
Sources revealed that Bello arrived at the EFCC’s office on Tuesday morning, accompanied by his legal team. Driving himself in a black Hilux, the former governor’s appearance followed a recent Supreme Court ruling affirming the EFCC’s constitutional authority to prosecute financial crimes.
Speculations about Bello’s visit to the anti-graft agency had surfaced last week, but his media aides declined to comment on the matter.
At a prior hearing on November 14 before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, the EFCC sought an adjournment for a fresh case against Bello. The prosecution explained that the 30-day summons period was still ongoing.
While Bello’s co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, were granted administrative bail, the EFCC requested additional time for the former governor to appear in court. Justice Anenih subsequently adjourned the case to November 27 for Bello’s arraignment.
This development highlights the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the former governor’s tenure and financial activities during his time in office.
