The Katsina State branch of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), took action on Thursday by sealing five petroleum stations in the state, for safety violations and under-dispensing fuel.
The operation, led by the State Controller, Umar Muhammad, aimed to ensure adherence to industry standards and protect consumer’s rights.
According to our correspondent, the enforcement exercise focused on petrol stations with expired operational licenses that had failed to renew them as required by regulatory authorities.
Several of the affected stations were also sealed for under-dispensing fuel, delivering less than the standard litre, and lacking essential safety equipment such as fire extinguishers.
The five stations affected include Total Petrol Station, A.A. Rano, Ashafa Petrol, Maje Gas, and Gwagware International Petroleum Ltd.
The NMDPRA has issued a stern warning to filling stations against diverting allocated petroleum products, stating that any station found guilty will face consequences in accordance with established regulations.
Muhammad reiterated the authority’s commitment to upholding safety and transparency within the downstream petroleum sector, emphasizing that similar operations will continue across the state to maintain regulatory standards and protect consumer interests.
“We will not tolerate any actions that violate the rules and guidelines governing filling station operations in the state,” he concluded.
