An early morning fire broke out on Friday at Sanni Adewale Street in Lagos Island Local Government Area, causing significant panic among residents as they scrambled for safety.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the fire began at around 5:17 a.m.
Firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations were swiftly dispatched after receiving a distress call and arrived at the scene by 5:33 a.m.
The blaze, which affected several shops within a seven-story building, destroyed items valued at millions of naira. Fortunately, as of the time of this report, no casualties have been recorded.
“Thanks to the swift actions of the Lagos State Firefighters, the situation is now under control. Ventilation efforts are currently underway to ensure the safety of all in the area,” Adeseye stated.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was likely caused by an electrical surge.
Despite the damage, the quick response by emergency officials helped to contain the situation and prevent further loss.
