The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Defence, is set to establish a Joint Military Command Centre in the North-West, code-named ‘Operation Fansan Yamma,’ as part of ongoing efforts to tackle the security challenges in the region.
This was revealed by the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, during his visit to Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House as part of his working tour of the North-West Zone.
The visit aimed to finalize preparations for the official launch of Operation Fansan Yamma, a military initiative led by Defence Headquarters to address insecurity in the region.
Badaru highlighted the importance of setting up the Command and Control Centre, stating that it is a crucial step toward combating banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and other related crimes plaguing the North-West for years.
“The President has charged us to be innovative and find lasting solutions to this security problem.
We’re working hard to ensure its success,” the Defence Minister said, reaffirming the Federal Government’s determination to end the security crisis in the region.
Badaru also acknowledged the government’s collaboration with neighboring countries to curb terrorism and arms trafficking, noting specific concerns regarding Sokoto and its borders with Niger Republic.
He assured that proactive measures are being taken to address these challenges.
“We are working closely with the military, security agencies, and neighboring countries to tackle terrorism, banditry, and arms trafficking,” he said.
“The President is committed to ending insecurity in Nigeria. We’re working tirelessly to ensure peace and stability,” he continued.
Governor Uba Sani commended the Federal Government’s efforts, describing the establishment of the North-West Command and Control Centre as a clear demonstration of its commitment to tackling the multidimensional security challenges facing the region.
He called for a strong collaborative framework among Northern states to combat banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping.
“We understand and appreciate the need for a strong collaborative framework toward tackling insecurity.
We must establish a Command-and-Control Centre to coordinate our joint efforts against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements in our region,” said Sani.
The Governor also emphasized the need for complementary efforts such as stimulating investment, developing agriculture, expanding infrastructure, and promoting social inclusion to address the root causes of insecurity in the region.
He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening intelligence gathering, supporting security agencies, and advancing security-related initiatives across Kaduna State.
