The Federal Government has approved the implementation of the 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments, with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) commencing the rollout of the new framework aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal and trade policy landscape.
The NCS said the revised measures are intended to promote legitimate trade while enhancing the administration of fiscal and tariff policies across the country. According to the Service, the reforms form part of broader efforts to improve the efficiency of Nigeria’s customs regime and support economic competitiveness.
As part of the implementation process, the Customs Service has directed importers, exporters, manufacturers, licensed customs agents and other stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the updated tariff schedules and comply with all applicable fiscal and regulatory provisions.
“Importers, exporters, manufacturers, licensed customs agents, and other stakeholders are required to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the amended tariff schedules and ensure full compliance with the applicable fiscal and regulatory requirements governing their respective transactions,” the Service stated.
To facilitate a seamless transition, the NCS announced that the complete 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments have been published on its official website for public access. The Service urged stakeholders to study the document thoroughly to ensure full compliance with the new fiscal measures and tariff framework.
The Customs Service reaffirmed its commitment to its core responsibilities of trade facilitation, revenue generation and border security, noting that the success of the reforms will depend on the active cooperation of all participants within the trade ecosystem.
It added that collective compliance with the new framework would help build “a more competitive, transparent, and sustainable economy.”
