The Federal Government has officially released the programme of events for the country’s 26th Democracy Day celebration, slated for Thursday, June 12, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Ministerial Committee, the celebration will begin with a national broadcast by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at 7:00 a.m.
Unlike previous years, there will be no ceremonial parade. Instead, President Tinubu will attend a special joint session of the National Assembly scheduled for 12 noon.
Later in the day, a public lecture will take place at 4:00 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. Themed “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms,” the lecture is part of the activities aimed at deepening democratic governance.
Media coverage of the lecture will be provided by State House correspondents. Accredited media organisations wishing to broadcast the event live have been requested to submit a list of their Outside Broadcast (OB) crew and correspondents by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
The announcement was signed by Abdulhakeem Adeoye on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations.
