The FBI is investigating a potential second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump after a gunman was spotted near his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. The incident, which took place at Trump’s golf course, triggered a response from Secret Service agents who fired at the suspect.
Law enforcement officials identified the suspect as Ryan Wesley Routh, who was carrying an AK-47 rifle equipped with a scope and a GoPro camera, seemingly intended to record the attack. Routh was discovered hiding in the bushes near the course’s perimeter while Trump was playing.
In an email to his supporters, Trump reassured them of his safety, stating, “I am safe and well. Nothing will slow me down. I will never surrender.”
This follows a previous assassination attempt in Pennsylvania earlier this year. The White House confirmed that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the incident and expressed relief that Trump was unharmed. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
