An explosion suspected to be caused by dynamite has rocked the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, early on Saturday. The blast, which occurred at the party’s office located along Aba Road, caused significant damage to the building and surrounding property.
The gate of the secretariat was blown off, while windows, doors, and other facilities within the premises were left in ruins. This marks the second attack on the Chief Tony Okocha-led APC secretariat this year.
The incident occurred just hours before the local government elections were scheduled to take place across the state. On Friday, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission announced that all sensitive election materials had been distributed to the various local government areas in preparation for the polls.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that she had not yet received an official report on the explosion but promised to follow up.
As of the time of this report, the APC has not issued an official statement regarding the attack.
