As the curtain rises on the much-anticipated 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, five Nigerian footballers are set to showcase their talent on one of the biggest stages in club football.

This year’s edition marks a major milestone in the tournament’s history, expanding from just seven teams to a new 32-club format.

The revised structure ensures broader continental participation, including a minimum of three African clubs, offering more Nigerian players the opportunity to shine on the global scene.

Onuche Ogbelu – Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia)

Midfield dynamo Onuche Ogbelu will feature for Tunisian giants Espérance de Tunis. The 19-year-old began his career at Fosla Academy and led his team to victory in the 2021 Principal’s Cup.

He later joined Nasarawa United before securing a move to Espérance in September 2023 on a three-year deal. Ogbelu is expected to play a pivotal role in the team’s midfield as they compete against elite opposition.

Zaidu Sanusi – FC Porto (Portugal)

Zaidu Sanusi brings top-level experience to the tournament as a key figure in FC Porto’s defensive lineup. The left-back has become known for his speed and attacking prowess since joining the Portuguese club on a five-year deal.

He scored his first UEFA Champions League goal in a memorable 2–1 victory over Marseille and has contributed to Porto’s haul of domestic trophies, including the Primeira Liga, Taça de Portugal, and Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira.

Nigerian Trio – Al Ain FC (UAE)

United Arab Emirates champions Al Ain FC will feature three Nigerian players in their squad:

Rilwanu Haliru Sarki – A skillful and creative left winger renowned for his dribbling and flair.

Joshua Udoh – A promising young striker with a keen eye for goal and sharp finishing.

Hassan Sani Mohammed – An agile goalkeeper with strong reflexes and growing reputation.

Their presence adds depth and versatility to Al Ain’s lineup as the club targets a strong performance in the newly formatted tournament.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup promises high drama and global attention, and these Nigerian players are poised to leave their mark in what could be a career-defining tournament.
