The European Union has announced a €235 million humanitarian assistance package aimed at supporting vulnerable populations across Nigeria and other countries in West and Central Africa. The funding, unveiled by the European Commission, is targeted at addressing urgent humanitarian needs in regions grappling with conflict, displacement, and food insecurity.

According to the Commission, the intervention is designed to provide “life-saving support, including shelter, clean water, hygiene, and health services.” The aid forms part of broader efforts by the EU to respond to rising humanitarian challenges across the region, where millions of people remain in need of critical assistance.

The support will focus on delivering essential services and protecting the most vulnerable groups affected by crises.Officials noted that the initiative underscores the EU’s continued commitment to humanitarian relief, particularly in areas facing protracted instability and limited access to basic services. The intervention is also expected to complement ongoing international efforts to alleviate suffering and strengthen resilience in affected communities.

The announcement comes amid increasing pressure on global humanitarian systems, with growing demand for assistance across multiple regions.
