Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi stamped his mark early in the 2025 World Athletics Championships by securing a place in the men’s shot put final, marking his third consecutive appearance in a global championship final.
Enekwechi logged two impressive throws of 20.83 metres, finishing 5th in Group A and ranking 7th overall to earn the final berth.
“This performance records his third final at a global championship,” the report notes—evidence that Enekwechi is gradually solidifying his status among the world’s elite throwers.
Earlier this year, on July 5, 2025, he recorded a throw of 22.10 metres, setting a new African record and safeguarding his position as Nigeria’s leading shot putter.
In the upcoming final, Enekwechi will face a formidable group of competitors, including New Zealand’s Tom Walsh (21.74 m), USA’s Adrian Piperi (21.47 m) and Ryan Crouser (21.37 m), and Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri (20.95 m). Other qualifiers include Scott Lincoln (GBR), Wictor Petersson (SWE), Josh Awotunde (USA), Uziel Muñoz (MEX), Tomáš Staněk (CZE), Marcus Thomsen (NOR), and Konrad Bukowiecki (POL).
