Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed enthusiasm over the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority’s (NCAA) approval for the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport to commence non-scheduled flight operations. The governor announced that the airport would begin hosting private jet landings in January 2025.

Speaking during a thank-you visit to elder statesman and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), Oyebanji highlighted Babalola’s critical role in the airport’s construction. The governor personally delivered a letter of appreciation during his visit on December 18, 2024.

Oyebanji shared the details of the NCAA’s approval, stating:
“We are here this afternoon to inform you of the good news from the NCAA granting approval to run non-scheduled flights from Ado-Ekiti Airport for six months, effective from December 15, 2024, to June 15, 2025.

“This approval allows chartered flights to land in Ado-Ekiti at any time during the day and paves the way for future commercial flights. This is a significant step in aligning Ekiti State with your vision of placing it on the international map of excellence.”

He added “From January, private jets will begin landing at Ado-Ekiti Airport. We are deeply grateful for your continued support. Your contributions have been crucial to the success of this project, and this letter is a token of the state government’s appreciation.”

The governor’s letter detailed the support provided by Babalola, including financial contributions toward purchasing navigational aids, control tower communications equipment, and constructing the car pad.

Oyebanji also solicited Babalola’s assistance in meeting NCAA requirements for full commercial flight operations, including installing an Instrument Landing System to enhance the airport’s capacity.

Babalola, in his response, praised Oyebanji’s commitment to the project, noting the transformative potential of the airport.
“Without a viable and functional transportation system, no state or country can thrive. The lack of proper transportation infrastructure has long hindered Ekiti State, but all that is changing. This airport is the catalyst for a brighter future.”

He highlighted the economic benefits and job opportunities the airport would bring to the state, saying:
“This airport will bring many benefits to our people, from creating jobs to stimulating local markets. A prosperous state leads to fewer hunger and anger issues, and consequently, a reduction in violence.”

Babalola also commended Oyebanji’s leadership and assured him of continued support.
“When you assumed office, you promised this airport would become a reality.

Today, by the grace of God and your determination, it has come to life. We will continue to work with you to make Ekiti State one of the best and safest places to invest and operate in Nigeria. Posterity will record your achievements for good.”

The approval marks a major milestone in Ekiti State’s quest to enhance its transportation infrastructure and boost economic growth.
