The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that it is investigating Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, over an alleged N70 billion fraud.
As part of the probe, the anti-graft agency has arrested the state’s Accountant-General, Alhaji Sirajo Mohammed, in Abuja.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, revealed that the investigation uncovered a withdrawal of N59 billion through multiple bank accounts operated by the Accountant-General on behalf of the state government.
“The Commission is investigating the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, regarding the matter,” Oyewale stated.
He further disclosed that the withdrawn funds were allegedly funneled to Abubakar and Sambo, who then made cash payments to party agents and associates of the governor.
“One of the key suspects, Abubakar, a bureau de change operator, had previously jumped bail but has now been rearrested,” Oyewale added.
The EFCC confirmed that its operatives in Abuja apprehended the Accountant-General alongside Aliyu Abubakar of Jasfad Resources Enterprise, an unlicensed bureau de change operator, and Sunusi Ibrahim Sambo, a Point of Sale (PoS) operator.
The investigation is ongoing as the agency continues to unravel the details of the alleged financial misconduct.
