The Edo State Vehicle Recovery Committee retrieved 30 government-owned vehicles from officials of the immediate past administration, the committee chairman, Kelly Okungbowa, announced on Thursday.
In a statement issued by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Okungbowa praised whistleblowers for providing critical information that facilitated the recoveries.
Among the reclaimed assets were four vehicles retrieved from the residence of a former high-ranking official and one from another individual.
“We have recovered two Land Cruiser Jeeps and two Toyota Hilux vehicles from a former high-ranking official of the immediate past government.
One of these vehicles contained campaign posters and umbrellas,” Okungbowa stated.
He also confirmed the recovery of another Hilux, bringing the total number of reclaimed vehicles to 30 since the committee began operations.
Okungbowa assured Edo residents that more recoveries would follow within the two-week deadline set for the committee’s mandate.
“We appeal to the public for further information to aid our operations.
Whistleblowers have played a vital role in our success, and we remain committed to rewarding those who provide helpful tips,” he added.
The committee, Okungbowa emphasized, is prepared to track down state-owned vehicles wherever they may be, even if it requires nationwide travel.
Earlier, the committee had recovered three vehicles last Friday, including a Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses.
One of the buses contained bags of rice intended as palliatives for Edo residents.
Okungbowa reiterated the committee’s resolve to ensure that all government assets are accounted for and returned to the state, emphasizing accountability and transparency in the process.
