The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has officially granted an operational license to Edo Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited, located in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The NMDPRA, responsible for overseeing midstream and downstream operations in Nigeria’s petroleum industry, issued the license during a ceremony on Tuesday, marking the final approval needed for the refinery to commence full operations.
Ahmed Farouk, Chief Executive Officer of NMDPRA, presented the operational license to AIPCC, the parent company of Edo Refinery.
The handover was attended by key officials, including the Executive Director of Hydrocarbon Processing Plant Installation and Transport Infrastructure, Francis Ogaree.
Farouk praised the company for reaching this milestone and encouraged continued progress.
Segun Okeni, Head of Technical Operations at Edo Refinery, expressed gratitude for the support from the regulatory authority and assured that the refinery is poised to make significant contributions to Nigeria’s petroleum and gas processing sectors.
He also announced that AIPCC is developing three additional projects, with one expected to be completed next year.
Okeni explained that the operational license is the culmination of a rigorous approval process, starting from the License to Establish, through the License to Construct, and various stages of testing and commissioning.
He further revealed that the refinery is finalizing a major crude supply agreement with an indigenous oil company to ensure optimal production.
Okeni emphasized the importance of this partnership, noting that with the new license, local refineries should be prioritized in future bidding rounds for marginal fields.
