Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has declared that the state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is in a dire state, likening it to a patient “gasping for air in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).”
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo criticized PDP leaders for what he described as desperate attempts to regain political relevance. He further likened the party to a “broken vehicle abandoned by its driver,” emphasizing its internal disarray and lack of direction.
“Their latest antics, rather than earning them public sympathy, only reinforce the obvious: Edo PDP is in the ICU, gasping for air. Instead of fighting for survival, its leaders are wasting their dwindling oxygen on unproductive tantrums,” the statement read.
Okpebholo’s remarks come amid mounting criticisms from the opposition regarding his administration’s activities since assuming office.
Describing the party’s struggles, Itua added, “PDP is not just a sick party on life support; it is suffering from terminal political irrelevance. The faction-ridden and scandal-infested remnants of what was once a ruling party have been reduced to desperate voices clinging to lies, propaganda, and misinformation in a last-ditch effort to remain in public discourse.”
The PDP leadership in the state is yet to respond to the governor’s remarks.
