The Edo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called out Senator Monday Okpebholo for allegedly taking credit for the construction of Temboga Road and other projects completed during the tenure of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Chris Nehikhare, the Publicity Secretary of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, criticized Okpebholo’s claims that his administration was flagging off the construction of the 7.5km Temboga Road. Nehikhare dismissed the assertion as misleading, pointing out that the project had already been completed under Obaseki’s leadership.
“This is a disingenuous attempt to rewrite history,” Nehikhare said. “The 7.5km Temboga Road was both initiated and constructed under the Obaseki administration. It is utterly preposterous for Okpebholo to claim credit for a project that was already finished.”
He urged Okpebholo to focus on fulfilling his campaign promises and refrain from what he described as “mendacious antics.” Nehikhare further challenged the governor-elect to initiate new projects that align with his administration’s vision for the state.
“Edo people deserve better than deceit,” Nehikhare stated. “Rather than rewriting the record of Governor Obaseki’s administration, Senator Okpebholo should concentrate on implementing projects that reflect his own vision, if such a vision exists.”
In response, Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, fired back with a statement titled “Temboga Road: Shame on PDP, Obaseki,” accusing Nehikhare of inadvertently highlighting the failures of the Obaseki administration.
Itua said, “Once again, Chris Nehikhare has exposed the incompetence of the Obaseki administration. For over a year, the PDP-led government failed to complete the 7.5km road. Now, Governor Okpebholo is committed to finishing abandoned or poorly executed projects.”
Itua added that Okpebholo would not be distracted by “retired politicians chasing clout” and would remain focused on delivering critical infrastructure and creating economic opportunities for the people of Edo State.
He concluded, “Governor Okpebholo is dedicated to working for the benefit of Edo people and fulfilling his promises.”
