Dubai, known for its towering skyline, is set to add another architectural marvel to its collection with the construction of the Burj Azizi, poised to become the world’s second-tallest skyscraper.
The city, already home to the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, will now host this impressive new structure, which will stand at 725 meters (2,379 feet) tall.
Real estate firm Azizi Developments recently confirmed the height of the Burj Azizi, which will surpass all but one of Dubai’s iconic buildings.
The skyscraper, located on Sheikh Zayed Road in the World Trade Center district, will stand just 340 feet shorter than Burj Khalifa, solidifying its place as the city’s second-tallest structure.
The construction of Burj Azizi began in January, though its exact height was initially withheld pending approval from Dubai’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
With the approval granted, the developer has moved forward with enhanced foundation work to support the building’s impressive height.
The 131-story tower will offer a mix of luxury apartments, a seven-floor vertical shopping mall, and an all-suite “seven-star” luxury hotel.
It is also set to break several records, including hosting the world’s highest hotel lobby on the 11th floor, the world’s highest nightclub on the 126th floor, and the highest observation deck on the 130th floor.
Additionally, Burj Azizi will claim the title of Dubai’s highest restaurant, surpassing the current record held by Burj Khalifa’s At.mosphere restaurant.
In terms of local competition, Burj Azizi will easily surpass Marina 101, currently Dubai’s second-tallest building at 1,394 feet.
Globally, it will exceed Malaysia’s Merdeka 118, which holds the current second-tallest title at 2,227 feet.
Azizi Developments has invested over 6 billion dirhams ($1.6 billion) into the project, with completion slated for 2028.
The developer is set to open apartment sales by February 2025.
Dubai’s ambition to dominate the world of super-tall buildings continues with other notable projects, including the Franck Muller Aeternitas Tower, which aims to be the tallest residential clock tower, and the Ciel Dubai Marina, projected to be the tallest hotel upon completion.
With these developments, the city remains a global leader in architectural innovation and engineering.
