Air Peace has condemned the disruptive conduct of a well-known Nigerian politician who allegedly caused chaos at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (Zulu Hall) in Lagos after missing a scheduled flight to Abuja.
According to a statement released by the airline’s management and shared with PUNCH Online by spokesperson Osifo-Whiskey Efe, the incident took place around 6:10 a.m. on Wednesday.
The politician arrived late for Flight P47120, which was scheduled for departure at 6:30 a.m., only to find that the boarding gate had already been closed in accordance with standard aviation protocols and Air Peace’s strict on-time departure policy.
The situation escalated quickly when the politician, upon discovering he had missed the flight, allegedly became aggressive.
Air Peace reported that he physically assaulted some airline staff members and then took over control of the terminal’s main entrance, preventing other passengers from accessing the building.
His actions reportedly caused significant disruption to normal airport operations and delayed subsequent flights.
The airline described the incident as a serious breach of airport conduct, highlighting that the episode unfolded in full view of both airport personnel and numerous passengers.
In response to the disruption, Air Peace activated an emergency contingency plan, rerouting passengers through an alternative terminal to mitigate delays and keep travel schedules on track.
Expressing deep concern, Air Peace reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for violence, harassment, or abuse directed at its staff or passengers.
The airline emphasised its unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of all stakeholders, reiterating that all travellers, regardless of their social or political standing, are expected to comply with aviation regulations and respect operational protocols.
Air Peace called on all passengers to observe travel timelines and cooperate with airline and airport staff to ensure safe, timely, and orderly air travel.
