A host of prominent personalities, including political leaders, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries, gathered in Oyo Town on Saturday for the grand coronation ceremony of the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
The historic event was attended by the Governor of Oyo State, the Deputy Governor of Osun State, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, and several first-class monarchs, including the Soun of Ogbomosoland, the Aseyin of Iseyin, and the Oluwo of Iwoland. Other royal fathers, cultural custodians, and well-wishers from across the country also graced the occasion.
The coronation marked a new chapter in the rich legacy of the Oyo Empire, as the new Alaafin was formally presented to the people in a colorful ceremony that blended tradition with grandeur.
Security was tight, and cultural displays, drumming, and chants echoed through the ancient town, as residents and visitors alike celebrated the enthronement of the new monarch.
The Alaafin’s ascension comes after months of anticipation following the demise of the 45th Alaafin. The new king is expected to uphold the cultural heritage of the Yoruba people and play a vital role in uniting traditional institutions within the region.
