Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, marked his 32nd birthday on Thursday with a ₦300 million donation to support orphanages and initiatives tackling drug abuse among Nigerian youth.
Sharing his excitement and gratitude for another year, Davido wrote on X.com late Wednesday, “Big 32 soon! Omo, God is good. Happy to be alive! My eyes don see shege, but steady, my fans dey shout shekpe!”
In keeping with his tradition of giving back to society, Davido announced the donation through his foundation, the David Adeleke Foundation (DAF). In a statement released on Thursday morning, the singer reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable individuals across the country.
The statement read, “In line with its unwavering commitment to supporting underserved communities across Nigeria, the David Adeleke Foundation proudly announces another impactful year of charitable giving. Since its establishment in 2022, the foundation has remained steadfast in its mission to create a positive difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals.”
It further noted the foundation’s extensive contributions over the years, which have included life-changing initiatives benefiting orphanages and charities across Nigeria. “These contributions have directly enhanced the lives of thousands, reaffirming our core values of compassion, equity, and sustainable community support,” the statement added.
This year, the ₦300 million donation will be allocated to orphanages and programs focused on combating drug addiction among young Nigerians. “From aiding grassroots projects to supporting vulnerable communities, the ripple effect of these efforts is a testament to the profound impact of collaboration and kindness,” the foundation stated.
Davido’s philanthropic efforts have garnered widespread praise, with fans celebrating his generosity alongside his birthday.
This is not the first time the artist has used his platform to make a significant impact. In February 2024, Davido donated ₦300 million to orphanages across Nigeria. Similarly, in November 2021, he contributed ₦250 million to 292 orphanages in honor of his 29th birthday.
