The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reaffirmed that the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, remains ₦850 per litre, dismissing speculation of a price increase or operational shutdown.
The clarification followed recent reports alleging a halt in production and suspension of truck loading. In a statement issued by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the refinery described the claims as false.
“The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is fully operational. There has been no shutdown, nor has there been any suspension of truck loading activities,” the statement read.
Addressing concerns about the sale of Residual Catalytic Oil (RCO), the refinery explained that such transactions are part of routine business operations, often involving bulk sales that may prompt tender announcements.
According to management, the facility continues to supply over 40 million litres of petrol daily, alongside steady deliveries of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), despite market speculation.
“As the world’s largest single-train petroleum refinery, the facility employs advanced predictive and preventive maintenance protocols to ensure uninterrupted operations. Routine maintenance activities are standard and do not impact the overall fuel supply,” the statement added.
Responding to rumours of possible shortages and price hikes, the refinery issued a challenge to sceptics: “We invite interested buyers to place immediate orders for up to 40 million litres of PMS daily and 15 million litres of AGO daily, for the next 90 days.”
It further urged Nigerians to disregard what it described as falsehoods sponsored by “unscrupulous and unpatriotic individuals seeking to undermine the country’s energy independence for their selfish interests, including the importation of substandard fuels under the guise of domestic shortages.”
The 650,000-barrel-per-day facility began producing diesel and aviation fuel in January 2024, and in September 2024 commenced petrol processing to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined products and strengthen national energy security.
