The Dangote Group has refuted claims that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has begun lifting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from its refinery.
Recent reports suggested that NNPCL had sourced petrol from the Dangote Refinery and sold it at N897 per litre.
However, Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer at Dangote Group, clarified in a statement on September 5 that NNPCL has not yet started lifting fuel from the refinery.
“We would like to state that NNPC has not commenced the lifting of refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from our Dangote petroleum refinery,” Chiejina said.
“Therefore, the issue of setting the price of petrol from our refinery does not arise as we have not finalized our contract with NNPC.”
He emphasized that the petrol market is tightly regulated, and as such, Dangote Group cannot set or influence the price of the product, which falls under the jurisdiction of government authorities.
“We urge the public to disregard the misleading reports.
The Dangote Group is committed to providing high-quality petroleum products that will be available nationwide,” the statement concluded.
