Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has donated N1.5 billion to assist victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri, Borno State. The announcement was made during Dangote’s assessment visit to some of the flood-affected areas, where he was accompanied by Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State.
Of the total donation, Dangote stated that N1 billion was allocated to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to collaborate with the Borno State government in addressing the crisis.
“NEMA wrote to us, and after discussions, we approved N1 billion for them to work with the Borno State government,” Dangote explained. He further announced that the Aliko Dangote Foundation would provide an additional N500 million, bringing the total donation to N1.5 billion.
Governor Sule also pledged an unspecified number of trucks filled with relief materials to support the Borno State government in its recovery efforts.
In response, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum expressed his gratitude for the generosity and continuous support from Dangote, praising him for his dedication to helping the people of Borno.
“Not everyone with money has the heart to give. Aliko Dangote has consistently helped our people, and for that, I pray Allah rewards him with Aljannah,” Zulum said. He also extended his thanks to Governor Sule for visiting the state during this challenging time.
