Crude oil flowing into Nigeria’s Trans Niger Pipeline has been redirected through an alternative route following blasts that ruptured the main line on Tuesday, a spokesperson for Renaissance told Reuters.
According to the spokesperson, the alternative line successfully passed an integrity test on Wednesday, allowing crude to be diverted while repairs continued on the damaged pipeline.
“After preliminary investigations, arson is suspected,” the spokesperson stated.
The Trans Niger Pipeline, which has a capacity of approximately 450,000 barrels per day, is one of two major pipelines exporting Bonny Light crude from Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producer.
