Cole Palmer has made history as the first Premier League player to score four goals before halftime, leading Chelsea to a 4-2 victory in a thrilling match against Brighton at Stamford Bridge.
Brighton took the lead through Georginio Rutter’s opener, but Palmer responded swiftly, equalizing just 15 minutes later.
The England international then added a second from the penalty spot, before completing his hat-trick in just 9 minutes and 48 seconds with a stunning free kick.
Brighton’s Carlos Baleba pulled one back, but Palmer wasn’t finished. Just before the break, he converted a through ball from Jadon Sancho, securing his fourth goal and completing a remarkable first-half performance.
While players have previously scored four goals in a second half, Palmer’s achievement is a Premier League first.
The 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive debut season with Chelsea last year following his move from Manchester City, helping the club secure a return to European competition. Palmer had already netted twice in Chelsea’s first five league games this season under manager Enzo Maresca.
