Veteran football manager Claudio Ranieri has officially turned down an offer to become the next head coach of the Italy national team, opting instead to continue in his current position at AS Roma.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the 73-year-old confirmed that while the proposal was deeply appreciated, his commitment to Roma remains his priority.
“It’s a great honour for me to receive that proposal, but I decided to continue with my role at AS Roma as part of the management,” Ranieri said.
The former Leicester City and Chelsea boss widely respected for his long and decorated managerial career has been linked to the Italy job amid the Italian Football Federation’s search for a successor to the outgoing national team coach.
Ranieri’s decision brings clarity to the ongoing speculation and reflects his continued dedication to Roma, where he plays a strategic role in the club’s leadership. His refusal marks a significant moment in the Federation’s recruitment process, as they seek an experienced figure to guide the Azzurri forward.
