The 2024 China Internet Civilization Conference commenced on Wednesday in Chengdu, located in Sichuan Province, southwest China.
The event is focused on “Promoting the Spirit of the Times and Advancing Civility in Cyberspace.”
The two-day conference has gathered delegates from central and local government authorities, major news portals, online social organizations, internet businesses, scholars, and internet celebrities.
Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the CPC Central Committee’s Publicity Department, delivered the keynote address.
Participants emphasized the importance of enhancing civility in cyberspace as essential for keeping pace with rapidly evolving information technologies.
They noted that fostering a civil online environment is crucial for building a robust socialist culture and strengthening the nation’s cyber capabilities.
The conference also highlighted the need for ongoing efforts to promote socialism, increase positive energy online, develop a healthy internet culture, and improve cyberspace governance.
The event was jointly organized by the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, the Central Commission for Guiding Cultural and Ethical Progress, and Sichuan provincial authorities.
